The Best Spray Tan Solution Depends on Your Rinse Window
Compare Norvell Venetian, MineTan Coconut Water and Sjolie Clear by rinse time, guide bronzer and ingredients—not promises of a universal best tan.
The best spray tan solution is one that suits your intended shade with a rinse window you can actually follow. A rapid formula is useful if you need to rinse sooner; a clear formula makes sense if you want no temporary guide bronzer. Neither is automatically better than a standard solution.
Three options worth comparing are Norvell Venetian for a standard, violet-brown bronzer, MineTan Coconut Water for an early rinse, and Sjolie Clear N°9 for bronzer-free application. These are selections based on published ingredients and directions, not a hands-on performance ranking. They are spray-machine solutions, not tanning mousses or lotions.
Product details below reflect the manufacturers’ published directions as of October 18, 2026. Confirm the instructions for the exact bottle or salon formula you will use.
Norvell Venetian: a standard-rinse option with visible guide color
Norvell Venetian Professional Spray Tan Solution has a cool brown cosmetic bronzer with violet undertones. Norvell specifies at least eight hours without bathing, showering or sweating, with full color development in 18–24 hours. It works in airbrush and HVLP systems. Its ingredients include DHA, erythrulose, denatured alcohol, fragrance and cosmetic dyes. Norvell’s product directions and ingredient list establish those features.
Choose it if: you can manage the eight-hour wait and want a visible bronzer that helps the technician see coverage during application.
Look elsewhere if: you need an early rinse or want to avoid fragrance or cosmetic dyes.
Norvell describes its violet-brown pigment blend as “anti-orange,” but that is not a guarantee of your developed shade. Its own directions warn that oversaturating skin can produce an unnatural-looking result. More solution is not necessarily a better tan.
Be specific when booking: this is standard Venetian, not a rapid variant. Our Norvell solution comparison explains the wider range.
MineTan Coconut Water: an option when you need to rinse sooner
MineTan Coconut Water Pro Spray Mist allows a one-hour rinse for a light, natural tan, with a longer leave-on time for more depth. The manufacturer specifies a 45-second lukewarm-water rinse without soap or scrubs, says color continues developing over the following 24 hours, and allows regular showering eight hours after that first rinse. It is formulated for salon professional use and is compatible with handheld spray-tanning systems. MineTan’s directions set out that schedule.
Choose it if: getting the temporary bronzer off sooner matters more than seeing the final shade immediately.
Look elsewhere if: you want a formula without fragrance or cosmetic dyes. The published ingredient list also includes denatured alcohol, coconut ingredients and several plant oils, including macadamia seed oil.
MineTan markets this solution for dry skin, but that positioning does not establish that it will suit every dry or sensitive skin type. Check the whole ingredient list rather than choosing by “coconut water” alone.
The important distinction is early rinse, not instant finished color. Do not book a one-hour formula assuming you can judge its final shade an hour after application. See our guide to rapid spray tans’ two timelines.
Sjolie Clear N°9: an option without temporary bronzer
Sjolie Clear N°9 Medium contains 9% DHA, no cosmetic bronzers or dyes, and an aloe-based formula. Its directions specify an eight-hour wait, followed by a lukewarm-water rinse without soap. It is compatible with HVLP and airbrush machines. Because there is no guide color, even application depends on the technician’s coverage technique rather than visible brown pigment. Sjolie’s product page provides the formula and instructions.
Choose it if: you dislike temporary bronzer residue and can still follow a standard eight-hour rinse schedule.
Look elsewhere if: you want immediate guide color or need to avoid scent. Although the page uses “fragrance-free” wording, its full ingredient list includes Green Tea Scent; do not treat it as an unscented option.
Clear means no temporary guide color, not no developed tan. It also should not be treated as a guarantee that an outfit will remain stain-free. For wedding clothing, use a trial and test washable white fabric rather than relying on a “no transfer” promise. Our bridal spray-tan guide explains that check.
Before you book or buy
Ask for these details before choosing a solution:
- Exact product and variant: the brand name alone does not tell you the rinse time.
- Intended depth: ask to see fully developed results, not just freshly applied guide bronzer. If you want a subtle result, ask about a lighter option; Sjolie, for example, lists Original N°6 Light at 6% DHA alongside its deeper formulas. Sjolie’s range guide gives those distinctions.
- Written rinse instructions: record both the first-rinse time and when normal showering can resume.
- Full ingredients: disclose ingredients you already know you react to. “Natural,” “vegan” and “clear” are not substitutes for checking the formula.
If buying a bottle for your equipment, also confirm compatibility and choose a size you can use within that product’s storage and expiry directions—not simply the cheapest price per ounce.
Finally, solution choice does not remove spray-exposure precautions. The US FDA permits DHA for external application, but not exposure to the eye area, lips or mucous membranes, or internal exposure through inhalation or ingestion. Ask how the operator prevents those exposures; if protection is unavailable, skip the spray. The tan also does not replace sunscreen. FDA guidance on sunless tanners explains these limits.
